Himes Visits Democrats' HQ To Rally The Troops

Tells campaign workers Democrats can be proud of what they've accomplished during the past two years, from the White House on down.

In a visit to Democratic campaign headquarters on Bayley Avenue Thursday afternoon, Rep. Jim Himes, D-CT 4, told campaign workers, "We (Democrats) have every reason to be proud -- and by 'we' I mean the President on down -- of what we've accomplished over the past two years."

During that time, Himes said, Democrats in Congress brought about passage of important legislation despite roadblocks imposed by Republicans.

Himes said the slim improvements in the nation's economy "are nothing to celebrate," but there's a big difference from where we were when the President and he took office.

He described the Bush administration as a "catastrophic government" that was "dedicated to do nothing more than to making the tax burden smaller on the very wealthiest people in this country."

Surrounded by volunteers who were about to begin making campaign calls to town residents, Himes said, "Energize disconcerted Democrats (and) convince Ridgefield's unaffiliated that we're the responsible choice."

This is the key in the November elections, Himes said. "It's which philosophy do you want: Do you want to continue moving forward or do you want to go back to where we were five years ago?"

Himes is running for reelection after completing his first two-year term in the House. His Republican opponent,  Dan Debicella, is a two-term state senator representing Stratford, Shelton, Monroe, and Seymour.
