About Carrie

I believe in God, in science, in family, in optimism, in art and in the tendency of a democratic society to improve itself.

I believe that there are many things more valuable than money. I believe that diversity is important. I believe that people are at our best when we are listening to our imaginations and our aspirations. I believe in the power of dreams, whether we have them while we're waking or while we're sleeping.

I believe that a good story can change a person's day. So can a smile, a song remembered, a touch. I believe that we can choose happiness, and that misery, for the most part, is optional.

I believe that when the ones we love die, they never really leave us. I believe that time does not heal all wounds, but gives us enough distance from the pain that we can heal ourselves.

I believe that people are born, and people are made, and that nature and nurture work together. I believe that we can shape our futures, if we listen hard enough in the present moment.

I believe that Democrats are better leaders, and Republicans are better financiers. I believe that we excel at what we love, and vice-versa.

I believe that bright colors are better than dull ones, that a whisper can catch more attention than a shout, and that a good cup of coffee can chase away a day's worth of problems.

I believe in personal authenticity and emotional honesty. I believe that a good night's sleep can work miracles, and naps don't hurt, either. I believe in the love of a good dog, the loyalty of a dear sister and the lifelong length of a committed marriage.

I believe in getting up early, having moments of quiet, and laughing whenever I can.
