Conn. Olympian Third in London Olympics Double Sculls Heat

Guilford's Sarah Trowbridge and teammate Margo Shumway raced early this morning at Eton Dorney.

 

Guilford's Sarah Trowbridge placed third in the second heat of the women's double sculls races this morning in the London Olympics.

Trowbridge and her teammate, Margot Shumway finished with a time of 6:55.25.

The overall winner in this morning's double sculls races, which started at 5:20 a.m., London time, was the British team, which finished 6:44.33 in the first heat.

The races are taking place at the Olympic rowing course in Eton Dorney, about 30 miles outside of London.

Trowbridge and Shumway, who trained for the Olympics in Old Lyme, will race again tomorrow. NBC will carry air today's races later this morning.

Trowbridge, 29, first began rowing in 2000 with Old Lyme's Blood Street Sculls and she's been on five senior national teams and has five medals from international racing. Shumway, of Westlake, Ohio, is also a member of a national racing team who made it to the 2008 Olympics.
