Police and high school students prepare for Halloween by turning the Community Center into a haunted mansion.

Students from the Ridgefield Alternative High School joined members of the Ridgefield Police Department on Friday to transform the Community Center into a site of haunted surprises for the annual Halloween night party there.

Students chatted and laughed as they hauled dismembered limbs and hanging ghouls through the normally rather dignified Community Center ground floor. The youngsters from the Ridgefield Community Kindergarten Preschool walked through for a sneak preview, uncertain as to whether to be frightened.

The party, sponsored for the 15th year by Stop & Shop with donations from Party Depot, is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31.
