Meet Mark Reinders, Ridgefield Teacher of the Year

Mark Reinders, a fourth grade teacher at Branchville Elementary School, was selected as Ridgefield's 2013 Teacher of the Year.

Ridgefield Public Schools announced this week that Mark Reinders, a fourth grade teacher at Branchville Elementary School, was selected as Ridgefield's 2013 Teacher of the Year.

Reinders, who came to Ridgefield in 1997 after working in North Salem, N.Y., garners high praise from his colleagues.

“Most educators recognize that building successful and confident students and classroom atmosphere that scaffolds student development is crucial for success," colleagues wrote in his application. "This is at the heart of Mark’s philosophy.  He understands each student, his/her strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and designs lessons that inspire each learner.”

School Superintendent Deborah Low wrote in a press relaease: "Teachers recognized as Ridgefield’s Teacher of the Year must not only demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication in the classroom, but also in the community.  Mr. Reinders is an active member of NEA-R, works tirelessly on the Beaver Press, was instrumental in bringing the Science Invention Convention to Branchville Elementary School, and annually makes gingerbread houses to raffle off for needy families.   Mark is also an active member of his church and leads many humanitarian activities along with his wife."

Low said that Reinders will also be congratulated at the state level this fall.

His professional knowledge and personality have enhanced the culture at Branchville and of us in some way," colleagues wrote. "Mark’s devotion to his teaching and students makes us all better at what we do.”
