The Great Recession and the Not So Great Recovery

Please join the Ridgefield League of Women Voters on Wednesday, September 21st, 7p.m., at the Ridgefield Playhouse in welcoming speaker Nick Perna, one of the nation’s most frequently quoted economists. The title of his talk is "The Great Recession and the Not So Great Recovery... Why, What's Next and What Can We Do?”  Sought-after for his fun, plain-spoken insights on economic predictions, Nick will talk candidly about what has happened, what are the current trends, and what reasonable expectations we can have in today’s economic climate.  Topics such as economic stability, unemployment rates, real estate trends, education, interest rates, inflation and oil prices will be discussed.  According to Nick, “The worst of the economy occurred in the fall of 2008 and the recession is over, in the sense that deterioration has stopped. It's stopped in Connecticut, too. So far we've looked like the national economy. We got in (the recession) a little later and came out at the same time.”  There are areas of optimism as well as areas of concern and Nick will help delineate these by offering his predictions as we approach 2012.  Nick, a Ridgefield resident, graduated magna cum laude from Boston College, has a Ph.D. from MIT in economics, and currently heads Perna Associates, a consulting firm specializing in economic analysis, forecasting and strategy, and consults with Webster Bank.  To register for this event or for more information, please contact the league’s president, Birgitta Stone, at 203-438-9896.
