National Rx Drug Take-Back

On September 25, 2010, the Drug Enforcement Administration will coordinate with state and local law enforcement agencies and their community partners to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation's medicine cabinets. Collections will take place between 10 am. and 2 pm. at sites established throughout the country. Local Prevention Councils in our area including, Newtown Prevention Council, Ridgefield Prevention Council, Brookfield Substance Abuse Coalition, Stand Together Make A Difference and Easton-Redding Community Coalition have also offered their assistance, broadcasting information about these events and helping out at the collection sites.

The National Take-Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction.  These drugs are a potential source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.

This one-day effort is intended to bring national focus to the issue of increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.  Even if your town is not listed among the collection sites, neighboring communities are welcome.
