LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS TO PRESENT AUTHOR OF “CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE”

The League of Women Voters of Ridgefield will present Jeff Clements, author of “Corporations Are Not People,” as guest speaker at a special community presentation to be held on Wednesday, September 12 at Westport Town Hall at 7:00 p.m.   The event, co-sponsored with the Leagues of Fairfield, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton, will focus on the controversial Supreme Court Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling, and will be open to the public.  

A Massachusetts attorney, Jeff Clements, President and Co-Founder of the non-partisan Free Speech for People, is spearheading its national campaign to challenge the creation of Constitutional rights for corporations and overturn the Citizens United decision.  In his presentation, he will discuss the history of corporate “personhood” in U.S. law, its impact on political campaign finance, and current national efforts to pass a Constitutional Amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision. 

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization of women and men, encouraging informed and active participation in government, and working to increase understanding of public policy issues through education and advocacy.
