A Doctor Speaks on Personal & Planetary Health

Personal and Planetary Health: A Doctor's Perspective

On Wednesday, April 4, 7 pm at the Ridgefield Library, Dayton Room, Dr. Peter Libre, a Columbia University eye surgeon, will speak about how a low-carbon lifestyle is healthier for you and the planet, as well as for your wallet. Lifestyle diseases account for two thirds of US health care costs while extreme weather conditions caused over $12 billion in damage in the US during 2011. Dr. Libre will prescribe which lifestyle changes have the biggest impact in improving health while minimizing climate change and share how he has discovered a higher quality of life through a more frugal standard of living.

Peter Libre is an eye surgeon who lives with his family in a carbon-neutral home, raises chickens and grows vegetables, and bikes 2500 miles a year for transportation. He is one of many volunteer presenters around the country for The Climate Reality Project, founded and chaired by Al Gore, Nobel Laureate and former Vice President of the United States. The Climate Reality Project has more than 5 million members and supporters worldwide.
