East Ridge MS Ellis Island Trip Canceled

'We are doing this as a preventative measure,' principal says in letter to parents

East Ridge Middle School's Ellis Island trip, an eighth-grade field trip that was scheduled for Nov. 19, has been canceled.

The eighth grade ski trip was also canceled.

"We are doing this as a preventative measure to support the concept of 'social distancing' in an effort to avoid transmitting the H1N1 virus," Principal Marty Fiedler wrote in a letter sent to parents via PTA e-blast on Thursday night. "Our ultimate goal is to avoid having to close a school.  (Superintendent Deborah) Low will be reviewing all field trip requests and deciding whether or not they will go on a case by case basis."
