8-Year CL&P Error Yields Refund of $4.3 Million For Ridgefield Schools, Town

The amount "represents a refund for the full amount of all overcharges plus interest from 2003 through September, 2011."

For the past eight years, the Ridgefield Public School District has been "significantly overcharged" by Connecticut Light & Power due to to the fact that electric usage meters were installed incorrectly at the high school in 2003, according to an announcement from the school district and the town of Ridgefield.

As a result of the oversight, CL&P presented the district with a check for $4.3 million this week as a refund for the years of overcharging -- the amount "represents a refund for the full amount of all overcharges plus interest from 2003 through September, 2011."

CL&P Vice President for Energy Delivery Services Kenneth Bowes met with First Selectman Rudy Marconi, School Superintendent Deborah Low, School Facilities Manager Joe Morits and School Business Manager Paul Hendrickson Thursday morning to inform them of the error, which was discovered in September.
