New Poll Shows Murphy Pulling Away From McMahon

One day before the election the latest poll indicates that Democrat Chris Murphy is widening his lead in the U.S. Senate race.

A new poll shows Democrat Chris Murphy now has a nine-point lead over his Republican rival Linda McMahon, according to latest report by Public Policy Polling.

The group says its latest poll shows Murphy leading McMahon 52-43.

“In Connecticut our final poll finds Chris Murphy with his largest lead all year at 9 points,” the group says on its website. “He's increased his advantage by 5 points since two weeks ago when he was ahead just 48-44. Linda McMahon, already unpopular, has just become more disliked by voters in the state over the last couple weeks. Only 37% have a favorable opinion of her to 52% with an unfavorable one."

McMahon's campaign calls the poll results a "desperate stunt" intended to discourage her supporters, according to the blog Capitol Watch. A McMahon spokesman said Public Policy Polling is "nothing more than a front for the Democrats, and this is a sad stunt. Our supporters won’t be deterred by the Democrats’ desperation," the blog says.
