Gov. Malloy Tells Murphy to Fight Back

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has some advice for fellow Democrat Chris Murphy: fight back. CTNewsJunkie.com reports that Malloy offered up his thoughts at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Hartford.

Polls show the Senate race at a stastical dead heat despite Connecticut’s preference for Democrats. Linda McMahon has been outspending Murphy with her personal wealth.

Malloy reportedly said that, “sooner or later people have to talk about policies.”

Fourth District

While Jim Himes was awarded by the Concord Coalition for supporting a failed bipartisan budget that would have reduced the federal deficit, Steve Obsitnik questioned Himes’ fiscal credentials.

“The notion that Congressman Himes has made any effort to reduce the federal deficit is as far from the truth as it could possibly be,” said Amanda Bergen, spokesperson for the Obsitnik campaign. “He has voted to spend more and more of the taxpayers’ money at nearly every opportunity.”

Some of the examples cited included Himes’ support of the $789 billion stimulus plan and the Affordable Health Care Act (also known as Obamacare).

The Concord Coalition, which is dedicated to reducting the national deficit, spoke highly of Himes and 37 other politicians.

“We are honoring Republican and Democratic House members who this year put the national interest above political partisanship,” said Robert Bixby, Concord’s executive director, in a statement. “Instead of pursuing narrow agendas, they put everything on the table, made tough choices, and called for shared sacrifice."
