Campaign Notebook: McMahon Cooks on Better CT

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Linda McMahon (R): McMahon appeared on Better Connecticut's "Cooking with the Candidates" on Thursday.

Christopher Shays (R): The Hartford Courant endorses Christopher Shays for the August 14 Republican primary.

Susan Bysiewicz (D): Bysiewicz has pulled her controversial television ad that accused Democratic rival Chris Murphy of accepting the most Wall Street contributions of any candidate, reports Real Clear Politics. Bysiewicz stands by the claim and said the ad "had run its course."

Fourth District

Jim Himes (D): Himes says that reforms on taxes and spending enacted now will be most effective at minimizing the deficit, reports the Greenwich Post. He believes that recommendations from the Simpson-Bowles Commission, which in 2012 called for defense spending cuts, tax increases on high-earning Americans, and reforms to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, will be helpful in improving the situation, even if debates on the legislation cannot happen until after the November elections.

Steve Obsitnik (R): The Hour posted a Letter to the Editor in which a voter expressed he has no idea what Obsitnik's views are. He proposed a scavenger hunt where the winners "would be anyone who can find — on the Web, in position papers, in interviews with the media — the highest number of positions Mr. Obsitnik has taken on various issues facing the country."
