Police: Man Allegedly Kills Brother, Self

A man identified as a suicide victim in Westport is a suspect in the shooting death of his own brother in New Haven earlier today, according to New Haven police.

Westport and New Haven police are investigating an apparent suicide victim and his alleged connection to the shooting death of his brother on Monday, according to New Haven Police Officer David Hartman.

Westport police received a 911 call Monday morning from a couple on Rustic Lane residence in Westport reporting that their son had just shot himself, according to Westport Police Captain Sam Arciola.

“Responding emergency units arrived on scene and began treatment of the victim of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” Arciola said.

The victim, identified as 47-year-old Daniel Shwisha of Woodbridge, was transported to Norwalk Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:13 a.m., Arciola said.

While treating Shwisha at the residence, the New Haven Police Department contacted Westport police to report that a suspect in a reported homicide in New Haven could be in route to the same Rustic Lane residence, Arciola said.

According to Hartman, New Haven police officers were dispatched to Electrix, an industrial lighting wholesaler located at 45 Spring Street at 7:47 a.m., for reported gunfire. Officers discovered the company's owner Gordon Shwisha sitting inside his Jeep near the building, police said.

According to police, he was shot several times and pronounced dead at the scene. The department identified the victim as Daniel Shwisha's brother, according to Hartman.
