Police Say Drunk Driver Hit Parked Cop Car

Ridgefield police charged a Bridgeport woman with driving under the influence after her car allegedly struck a parked cruiser on Ethan Allen Highway.

Ridgefield Police arrested a 30-year-old Bridgeport woman for driving under the influence, evading responsibility and failure to move over for a stationary emergency vehicle Friday at about 1 a.m.

Police said an officer had pulled his cruiser over for a motor vehicle stop when the cruiser was hit by a passing car that fled the scene. Police found the car nearby, and arrested the driver, Heather Mercik, on the above charges. She was held on a $1,000 bond.

This information was provided by the Ridgefield Police Department. A person charged with a crime is innocent until having been convicted in court.
