Ridgefield Police: 70 Calls in One Day

In the 24-hour period that ran from midnight June 24 to 11:59 p.m June 24, Ridgefield Police responded to 70 incidents.

The most common call was, "security checks," and the department responded to 19 calls. On July 2, in the same 24-hour period, officers performed 16 security checks and responded to eight alarm calls. Alarm calls frequently happen on stormy days, because lightening triggers alarms.

Ridgefield Police Capt. Thomas Comstock said Ridgefield police perform security checks on every shift, including a visit to each school every day they're in session.

"It's visible security. It makes people feel safe," said Comstock a native of Ridgefield.

Police made nine motor vehicle stops and issued nine verbal summons on the 24th. On July 2, officers issed 15 summons during motor vehicle stops and 14 verbal warnings during motor vehicle stops.

Third on the list was a tie of three calls each for "check well being," and "concerned person."

Comstock explained all of these calls are typical for patrol.

The balance of the calls, two or only one, fit into these categories, two fingerprints, two noise complaints, two road hazards, one medical assist, one foot patrol, one motor vehicle assist, and two alarms followed by alarm cancelled.
