Police Identify Victim, Circumstances Around Ridgefield Baby's Death

Ridgefield police released the name of the young boy who died after being left in a hot car Monday and a few details about what happened.

Ridgefield police released the name of the 15-month-old victim that died after being left in a car for most of the day Monday.

Benjamin Seitz, of Ridgefield, born March 28, 2013, was supposed to be dropped off at daycare Monday morning by his father but never arrived, according to police.

Benjamin’s father went to work at 38A Grove St. in Ridgefield (an office complex) with the boy still in the back seat. He reportedly discovered the child that evening and rushed him to Danbury Hospital around 6 p.m., where the boy was pronounced dead.

As of Wednesday evening, the incident was still under investigation and the Medical Examiner’s Office had yet to make a determination on cause of death.

Ridgefield police did not release the father’s name or any further information. As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, no charges had been filed.

Seitz is the 19th child to die in a similar manner this year, in a trend on the rise since 1998.

The parents and daycare center should have plans in place to prevent these tragedies from happening. The parent who isn't the one dropping off the child should call the other parent to make sure it was done. The daycare center should call the parents asap if a child has not arrived at the center. It takes a village.

This was a terrible incident but there seems to be a double standard with this story. Guilty parents on the other cases are in jail but what is going on with this parent? Why did the mother called the police before the father got to the hospital with the child? The father used the car to go to lunch and didn't see his child strapped on the car seat??

I don't understand why the daycare facility did not alert anyone?

One week has passed. The father stops for coffee in the morning, goes to work, goes out to lunch, then goes to day care to pick his kid up? All BS. There is obviously foul play here. Medical Examiner did not rule on cause of death like other cases of children left in cars. This man will be doing time.
