Man Charged in Ridgefield Woman's Crash Death

Geraldo Araujo was charged with negligent homicide.

A 49-year-old Danbury man has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle following an investigation into an August 2012 car accident that resulted in the death of a Ridgefield woman.

Geraldo Araujo, 50, of Griffing Avenue was allegedly heading north on Danbury Road when he crossed left of the double yellow lines and struck a vehicle heading south head-on on Aug. 17. Micelina Abbate, 69, was pronounced dead the following day.

After completing their investigation, a warrant was issued for Araujo’s arrest. He turned himself in to police custody on Jan. 2.

Araujo, who was also charged with traveling too fast, was given a court date of Jan. 16. Because he turned himself in, he was released on a promise to appear in court.

Such a tragic loss of a wonderful life. Such a difficult time for the family of the man found responsible....can't imagine ever getting over something like this. Love, prayers and hugs to Ron and his family....and all involved.
