In Ridgefield, at around 5 a.m., a mild thunderstorm rolled through with flashes of lightning and quick bursts of downpours. But that might not be the last of it.
Fairfield County and New Haven County could be in for a rough day. The National Weather Service warns that storms this afternoon and especially later tonight. According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for this afternoon and tonight are as follows for Ridgefield:
- "Thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southeast wind around 7 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
- Tonight : Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could be severe. Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible."
A hazardous weather alert says that a slow-moving cold front is moving through the area on Friday afternoon and early Saturday, which could more more “thunderstorms with very heavy rain and gusty winds.”
