Shirley M. Farr, 80

Shirley M. Farr, 80 of New Milford, formerly of Ridgefield, died on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Danbury Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was the wife of the late Charles B. Farr. He was her one true love.

Shirley  was born and raised in Magna, Utah, July 7, 1932, a daughter of the late Thomas W. and Maudest (Nielsen) Shaw and attended Magna schools.

Upon her marriage to Charles B. Farr, who was a member of the enlisted military personnel, Shirley and her husband resided in many parts of the United States due to Mr. Farr’s military and work assignments.

A resident of Ridgefield from 1970 to 1993 coming from Brookfield, Wisconsin, Shirley  has been a New Milford resident for the past 19 years. 

Her love of children brought her to the Ridgefield Montesorri School, where she was employed for a number of years.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield. At the church, she was a member of its Woman’s Fellowship and a Sunday school instructor . She was also  a member of the Church World Services organization.

She enjoyed travelling and spending the past forty years summering in Maine joined by her family. She  also spent tireless hours, working and raising funds  for The National Kindney Foundation, a cause near and dear to her heart.

In addition to travel and summering in Maine, her most enjoyable times were the simple moments spent with her children and grandchildren. 

Her presence will forever be deeply missed. 

Shirley is survived by her three sons, Rick (Debbie) Farr of Oak Point, TX, David (Diane ) Farr of Ridgefield and Thomas (Lily) Farr of Glendora, CA; two daughters, Sandy Farr of New Milford, CT and Linda (Farr) Bratten of Waterbury, CT; five grandchildren, Justin, Jordan and Jacob Farr, Allison Bratten and Alyssa Farr. And a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley  was predeceased by three brothers, one sister and by a grandson, Christopher Bratten.

Funeral services will take place in the First Congregational Church, 103 Main St., Ridgefield on Friday at 1:00 pm  with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe, Senior Pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church on Friday, one hour prior to the funeral.
