Obituary: Andre Henri Banette died on Jan. 8 at Ridgefield Crossing

Andre’ Henri Banette, 85, of Ridgefield, formerly of Greenwich, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Ridgefield Crossing, Ridgefield. He was the husband of Janine Yvette (Ferrier) Banette.

The son of Herve’ and Marguerite (Sybil) Banette , Mr. Banette was born in Bordeaux, France, on May 24, 1928. He attended schools in France and served in the French Military following World War II. He and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1953 settling in Greenwich, where they raised their son.

A resident of Greenwich for thirty-five years, he relocated to Danbury where he resided for four years until moving to Ridgefield in 2005.

Mr. Banette was a cargo agent for Air France for thirty-five years before retiring in 1991.

A connoisseur of fine wine, Mr. Banette took pleasure in enjoying wine with a good meal. He enjoyed music and opera and was quite the handyman, able to fix just about anything with his patience and skill. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he attended almost every musical performance by his son and granddaughter over the years. He delighted dinner guests with his wonderful stories of growing up in France and his experiences as a boy there during World War II. 

He will be sorely missed.

In addition to his wife of sixty-six years, Mr. Banette is survived by a son, Philippe Banette and his wife, Donna, their daughter Sophie and a sister, Gilberte Lhote of Bordeaux, France. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe officiating.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
