Mary G. Seleman, 94

Loving mother, grandmother. Services held Friday in Hartford.

Mary G. Seleman, 94, formerly of East Hartford, Connecticut and Delmar, New York, wife of the late John Seleman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2012 in Ridgefield, CT. Born in Hartford on May 11, 1918, she was the oldest child of Paul and Sophie (Chornat) Grogoza.

A statistician for Aetna Insurance Company for over 25 years, Mary was heavily involved in the cultural and church activities of Hartford’s Ukrainian community.  Lovingly, she unselfishly gave of herself to support and nurture her family, devotedly caring for her stricken husband for the last fifteen years of his life.  Within her restored childhood home, Mary enthusiastically preserved the customs and holidays of the Ukrainian culture and made their summer cottage, a restored WWII tract home, a source of countless happy memories for her children, grandchildren and extended family. Whether sewing clothing or preserving the fruits and vegetables of her garden, Mary was a model of depression-era resourcefulness and resilience to her children.

Mary is survived by her daughter Melanie Danyliw of Ridgefield, CT , her husband, Joseph Jr., their children Lesley, Joseph III, Jennifer, Courtney and Elizabeth, and great granddaughters Jillian and Haley; son, Gregory J. Seleman of Loudonville, NY, his wife Terri and children Jonathan and Casey; son-in-law James Kron of New Britain, CT; and many nieces and nephews.
