Janet H. Schmitt, 79

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 3 PM to 7 PM.

Janet (Hurley) Schmitt, 79, of Ridgefield, wife of William J. Schmitt died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Schmitt was born in Pittsburgh, PA, February 15, 1933, a daughter of the late John Patrick and M. Myrtle (Kappert) Hurley.  She attended schools in Pittsburgh and Antioch College.   She then began an internship at NBC, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York and remained with NBC until she became a full time homemaker and mother.


A resident of Ridgefield for the past thirty-three years coming from West Hempstead, L.I., NY, she was a member of St. Mary Parish and a twenty year member of the church choir.

In addition to her husband of fifty-eight years, Mrs. Schmitt is survived by two sons, William F. Schmitt and his wife, Nancy and John P. Schmitt and his wife, Sylvia; a daughter, Amy S. McGoldrick and her husband, Neil; a brother, Terrance Hurley; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Schmitt was also predeceased by a daughter, Margaret M. Schmitt in 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:15 AM in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
