Hurricane Relief: How can I Help??

I want to donate my time & energy....but where??

A lot of us in town are without power, but I am one of the fortunate to not have flooding/home damage.  This being said, I'd like to help out those who are not as lucky, in town and in the surrounding areas.  Can anyone let me know of any relief services that are in action?  I know I can donate money to Red Cross, but as I don't have much money to spare, I'd rather donate my time and energy.

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Bless everyone.

Thanks Lauren: That's a great question, and New Canaan Patch soon will have an article up for you and other towns on what they can do. Here's what I found out today from Mike Handler at the OEM: You can call them (203-594-4100) to see if they need help manning the lines here and getting information from residents. Every time an update goes out, they get dozens of calls and it's very difficult for them to keep up with the need. Others are calling to offer up generator-sharing and to help feed the OEM workers. I hope that helps and thanks again for using Patch.

That would be GREAT if you could post a list of ways to help locally and in NY/NJ/CT areas that were hardest hit. If people need food, water, clothing, donations of any kind -- there are MANY of us who would love to help NOW, but with all the power outages...the Patch and OEM are the best places for us to get information right now. Thanks!
