Darla Shaw, Ph.D, professor at Western Connecticut State University, and
Ridgefield resident, will be teaching the history of women's rights and
their struggles at the Women's Center of Greater Danbury later this
month. The 10-week class will stretch through the fall.
to really inspire these women and show them how hard women had to work
to get where they are today," said Shaw, who said her first 10-week
session filled up in about 10 days. It now has a waiting list. She plans
to offer it again and may expand it to other women's centers around the
state. "We already have other women's centers in other cities
said the whole movement of women's rights is so fascinating, it can't
help but inspire women in trouble themselves. Shaw said she will ask her
students about remarkable women they know themselves and the obstacles
they had to overcome.
"Even in my life, I was denied so many
things because I'm a woman," Shaw said. Shaw said she's looking forward
to talking to the class and finding out what they're interested in and
what they need. She will tailor the class to fit those needs.
