Sweet Songs of Spring

Living in Ridgefield suburbia, we get to experience (on most occasions) the joys of peace and quiet. It is in this silence we can hear the rustling of the leaves on a warm Spring day, the laughter of children as they play in the sunshine, the gentle splash of a fish in the pond, and the sweet sound of the Sparrow’s song. This little songbird has visited me every day, numerous times a day, for the past week or so. As if looking for accolades, he perches himself on one of two trees facing my desk. He loves to sing for me and pose for my camera. Thus far, he has successfully evaded the hovering hawk, and for that, I am thankful. His sweet melody reminds me of the old gospel hymn, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” recently made more famous by the late Whitney Houston. The verses encourage us to have faith in all circumstances, because even more so than the sparrow, we, too, are looked after. "I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me." So now, when the cacophony of mowers, blowers and contractors fire up around town, breaking the silence of a peaceful Spring day, I will carry this song in my heart. I hope you, too, will take time to listen for, enjoy, and reflect upon, the sweet songs and sounds serenading you this Spring. Peace.
