New Dessert Competition!

RIDGEFIELD—Think you can bake with the best? Then join the Battle of the Chefs’ dessert competition, which is open to the public, including both professionals and amateurs.  Any category of dessert is eligible for submission, including cakes, cookies, crèmes, pies, tortes or puddings. The recipe can be an original creation or from a favorite cookbook.  The competition will have two rounds, both judged by last year’s Battle chefs, Sarah Bouissou (Sarah’s Wine Bar and Bernard’s) and Art Michaelsen (Bartolo).  On Wednesday, May 21, they will judge all entries for taste and presentation, and then narrow the field to three finalists.  Joined by OmNomCt food bloggers Dan and Kristien Del Ferraro, the panel will judge the final round on Sunday, June 1 at the Battle of the Chefs.  All three finalists will receive a complimentary ticket to the Battle of the Chefs; the winner will receive a trophy and gift certificate for Sarah’s Wine Bar/Bernard’s.

Competition rules and entry form are available at www.founders-hall.org or at Founders Hall, located at 193 Danbury Road in Ridgefield.  Entry forms, along with a $25 donation to Founders Hall, are due by Thursday, May 15.  Founders Hall is a donor-supported education and recreation center for people age 60 and older.  The Battle of the Chefs, which benefits Founders Hall, is a culinary showdown in which three popular chefs compete to create a winning entrée from a basket of surprise ingredients in just under 40 minutes as an audience cheers them on. This year’s battling chefs are Forrest Pasternack of Bailey’s Backyard in Ridgefield, Matt Storch of Match in Norwalk and The Chelsea in Fairfield, and Jeff Taibe of Whelk and LeFarm in Westport.  Food writer Jane Stern, of Roadfood fame, will emcee the action.  For more information on the Battle, which is sponsored by Fairfield County Bank and The Chefs’ Warehouse,  go to www.founders-hall.org or call (203) 431-7000.
