If you love to write, and want the time, the place, and the support to do it, the 2014 Youth Authors: Creative Writing Workshop is for you! In just one week, exceptional writers from different schools will have a chance to immerse themselves in their craft, while working closely with an instructor and alongside encouraging and dedicated peers.

During the day there are different writing exercises to explore genres like short stories, poetry, and personal nonfiction. Inspiration will come from mini-trips into the park, the Aldrich Contemporary Museum, and the gardens of Keeler Tavern. This class is full of like-minded peers who not only have a talent for writing, but also appreciate what others have to share. In fostering individual creativity, students in this class will not only leave with a portfolio of writing they can be proud of, but new friends and a kick-start of writing before the school year.

STUDY SKILLS EXPRESS
In this course, students build a rock-solid study foundation by learning to identify important information, organize it, then apply their new knowledge.

The Study Skills workshop is a hands-on experience using engaging activities that develop proven strategies for time management, note-taking, personal organization, and studying. Participants will examine their own study habits and organization to discover what practices may not always be effective. The course allows students to practice and master study skills, self-management techniques, and work habits needed for conquering their homework assignments and commitments in all courses. The goals of this workshop are that students will learn more, get higher grades and test scores, have a better attitude about teachers and school, and increase their self-confidence.
