The college has expanded its “Bright Futures”
academic programs to include Civil Technology, Electrical Technology, Energy Systems, Engineering Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, and Mechanical Technology. The programs are organized under the “Bright Futures”
title partly because many of the academic majors relate to careers that will ensure
that we have the “bright” power we need in modern society. But it’s also because
there are a tremendous number of job openings in each of these energy,
engineering technology, and sustainability fields.

Westchester Community College, in conjunction
with Con Edison, initiated the Bright Futures program. In addition to the
curriculum of foundational and state of the art courses that meet current
industry expectations, the various programs strengthen students’ employability
with career development and soft skills through classes and meetings with
industry representatives, visits to industry sites, and further opportunities
to develop career-ready skills necessary for entry-level positions.
