HIPAA/HITECH Seminar for Local Healthcare Practices

Southridge Technology Grp hosts HIPAA/HITECH seminar for

local healthcare providers

By Sept. 23, 2013, healthcare providers covered by

HIPAA/HITECH must implement changes required by the HIPAA Final Rule, which was

released January 2013 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The

most important changes concern enforcement and penalties, breach notification,

notice of privacy practices and business associates. Changes to enforcement

policies are critical and could result in penalties of up to $1.5 million per

year for violations of any particular HIPAA requirement. Stiffer penalties and

enforcement are aimed at those who should be complying, but are not taking the

basic steps to comply with the HIPAA rules.

“The rules are lengthy and

complex and much more broad reaching than just technology, although as with

everything else these days technology does play a major role” said Joe Garzi,

Owner and Founder of Southridge Technology Grp. “Our clients are physicians and

dental practitioners who spend their days working with their patients, they

need help understanding the new privacy rules and how it affects their

practices and their patients”.
