The Hickories will host a Holiday Sheep Walk across the farm's fields as well as a wool spinning demonstration in the barn.

As the fields settle into the quiet of another New England winter, the farmers at The Hickories are gearing up to ring in the magic of the season with a Holiday Sheep Walk on Sunday, December 9th from 5 pm to 6pm.  A fun event for all ages, come early or stay late to browse our Holiday Farm Store stocked with wool, and other farm products for that special gift for your favorite locavore!

Visitors are invited to gather in the field overlooking Lounsbury Road as the farmers kick off the festivities at 5pm with the traditional tractor lighting. Once the tractor is lit for the season, visitors can help the farmers shepherd the farm’s flock across the field to the shelter of their winter barn.

The festivities will continue in the main barn with a hands-on wool skirting table and live spinning demonstration by a local spinner to give everyone the chance to share in and learn how the wool from this fleecy flock is used to keep us warm through the cold winter months.

The event will also feature the festive sounds of Ridgefield High School’s A Capella 8 (as well as the occasional--and always harmonious--bleating of our flock of fleecy finnsheep!). Hot cider will be provided but registration is suggested so we know how much cider to heat up! Just email us at info@thehickories.org to let us know you’re coming. The event ends at 6pm and is free for all.  Located at 136 Lounsbury Road, parking is available on site behind the barn.  Please check the website for more information in case of possible inclement weather cancellation.
