Community Corner

Shabbat Across America

Temple Shearith Israel (TSI) invites the community to join in celebrating Shabbat Across America on Friday evening, March 1, 2013, at TSI.  The synagogue is located at 46 Peaceable Street in Ridgefield.

On the evening of March 1, TSI, along with hundreds of other congregations across North America, will host Shabbat Across America, an annual celebration encouraging people to experience the joys of Shabbat.   Unaffiliated guests from the community are especially welcome to participate in this welcoming event.   This year, TSI’s celebration will begin with a family service at 6:00 pm, led by Rabbi Eric Eisenkramer.  This will be followed by a special “oneg” (hot and cold finger foods, beverages, and desserts), singing led by Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray, and Israeli dancing.  There will also be a featured contest for the best tasting kugel.  Entries are welcome and prizes will be awarded.

“This is a great opportunity to break out of the winter doldrums, and end the work or school week with the light, peace and uplifting spirit of Shabbat,” commented Karen Taylor, co-chair of TSI’s Ritual Committee.   “…Not to mention good food and music, which is a particular passion at TSI.”
