Ash Wednesday

Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.

I welcome hearing these words once a year on Ash Wednesday.  They relieve me from my own judgment of importance, from the measured significance of every action and word.  I want everyone to hear them, so that they may be freed from their worries and burdens as well.  I want young and old alike to hear these words so that they might know that it was out of God’s creative love that each of us was made, formed from the dust.  And when we return to dust, God’s creative love will remain.
