Camerata d'Amici to Present Winter Concert March 2nd

Camerata d’Amici will present its next choral concert, “From Darkness to Light,” on Sunday, March 2, at 4 p.m. at South Salem Presbyterian Church, 111 Spring St., South Salem, NY.   Dr. Kristin Sponheim will conduct the ensemble of singers from Fairfield and Westchester counties in a concert featuring selections that focus on the transcendence of light over darkness.

Light and dark are a source of inspiration for the poets and composers represented in this concert.  The first half begins with Daniel Elder’s “Ballade to the Moon.”  The radiance of the moon and stars brightens the soul of the speaker, as light glows in the dark.  Elizabeth Alexander’s “Faith is the Bird that Feels the Light” is a joyful musical setting for women’s voices.  Hope and optimism are reflected in the poetry, as well as in the syncopated rhythms and beguiling melody of the music itself.

In the second half, night becomes the setting for a deeper examination of the human spirit and its resilience.   Opening with the darkness of Brahms’ “Nächtens,” the program also includes the inspiring Gospel tune “Shine on Me,” sung by the men of Camerata, accompanied by pianist Margarita Nuller.  The program also includes solos from Ridgefielders Thomas Carr and Juliet Pratt. The concert concludes with the uplifting spiritual, “My Good Lord’s Done Been Here,” by André Thomas.

Tickets at the door are $25 for adults, and $10 for children 12 and under.  Advance tickets, with a reduced ticket price for adults of $20, may be purchased by sending a check to Camerata d’Amici, P.O. Box 74, Ridgefield, CT 06877.  For more information, email info@cameratadamici.org, or go to www.cameratadamici.org.
