Anthony Newman and Friends Perform to Benefit The Sanctuary Series

A parlor recital at a private home in South Salem on Sunday afternoon February 9, 2014, at 3 PM, featuring Anthony Newman and special guests to help raise awareness for The Sanctuary Series,  a new keyboard recital series being hosted at the South Salem Presbyterian Church.

Anthony Newman is a renowned keyboardist, composer and conductor who has been described by Wynton Marsalis as "The High Priest of Bach," and by Time Magazine as "The High Priest of the Harpsichord." The audience is limited to 40 attendees and there will be a post-concert reception.

The Sanctuary Series is intended to present some of the world's most accomplished pianists in the pastoral setting of the historic hamlet of South Salem through partnerships with other small venues in order to provide visiting artists multiple opportunities to perform while in the metropolitan area.  The series was founded by Mary Jane Newman, Mr. Newman's wife, herself an acclaimed conductor, pianist and organist and Minister of Music at the South Salem church, working in conjunction with Yashar Yaslowitz, an accomplished pianist who is director of the Carnegie Concert Series in Nyack, NY.

Founded in 1753 in what was then Ridgefield,, "The White Church on the Hill" has opened its doors to the series, as it has for so many other community activities. Yamaha and Faust Harrison Pianos in White Plains have also lent their support, along with a group of local volunteers who are helping to launch what they hope to see become a permanent part of the cultural fabric of the area.

Pastor, Rev. Dr. Chip Andrus and his Congregation want their Church to be a center for great art, as well as a community of faith committed to everyone who lives in the area regardless of what tradition they practice. As the Pastor noted, "gracious hospitality and commitment to the beauty of music and art in our world could be our mission statement."
