2014 Appalachia Service Project (ASP) Rally

Teens and adults interested in participating in the 2014 Appalachia Service Project should plan to attend one of two upcoming kick-off rallies at Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church.

The rallies will be held on Thurs., March 6 and Tues., March 11 at the church, 207 Main St. You only need to attend one. Both will last from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Martin Hall, in the lower level of the church’s main sanctuary building.

ASP is a national Christian volunteer organization that sends volunteers on weeklong mission trips to make homes “warmer, safer and drier” in West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. Since ASP’s founding in 1969, more than 300,000 volunteers from across the nation have worked on some 15,000 homes.

This is Jesse Lee ASP’s 31st year. During the spirited March 6th and 11th rallies, details will be presented about participating in this year’s trip, set for June 28-July 6. Sign-up sheets will be available for the 2014 training sessions and fund-raising car washes.

Appalachia Service Project is open to anyone who has completed their freshman year of high school. Adults are encouraged to volunteer – both those who have teens coming along and those who don’t. You don’t have to be a member of Jesse Lee or any church, you don’t have to live in Ridgefield, and you don’t need to be an expert with a hammer to volunteer. Basic construction skills and safety rules are taught prior to going on ASP.

You don’t have to pre-register to attend a rally, and you’re not obligated to go on the mission trip by attending a rally.

Parents of new youth can attend one of the rallies and get their questions answered in an informational session that will be held separately.
