Obituary: Ruth Coles, 87, Volunteer, Grandmother

Ruth (Orton) Coles, 87, of Ridgefield, wife of the late Charles Coles, Jr., former president of the Ridgefield Savings Bank died on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Coles was born in Brewster, NY, April 13, 1925, a daughter of the late Harry and Marion (Schaefer) Orton.  She attended Brewster schools and graduated from Brewster High School.

She and Charles Coles, Jr. were married in 1953 and upon marriage became a resident of Ridgefield. Ruth was a loving wife and homemaker and shortly thereafter, a beloved mother and years later, a cherished grandmother.

Mrs. Coles was employed at various times during her marriage first at the former Genung’s Department Store of Danbury in their Photography Department and later at the Barden Corporation.

She was a member of Founders Hall of Ridgefield and a longtime volunteer at the Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Coles is survived by two sons, Gary R. Coles and his wife, Barbara Byrnes Coles of Bethel and David C. Coles of Ridgefield; a brother in law, William Coles of Ridgefield and two grandchildren, Leigh Anne Coles and Kevin R. Coles.’

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 2 PM to 5 PM.

Graveside funeral services and burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery, Ridgefield in the spring.
