New Community Sign Board Gets Thumbs Up From Ridgefield P&Z
The new, 4x8 foot, plywood/wood post sign will replace the current "banner" type sign that runs parallel to the roadway and is approximately the same size.
The Ridgefield Parks and Recreation Department's application for a new community sign board near the entrance to the town facilities at 195 Danbury Road was approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission Tuesday.
The new, 4x8 foot, all-weather plywood/wood post sign will replace the current "banner" type sign that runs parallel to the roadway and is approximately the same size.
However unlike the current sign the new one will be two-sided and will be positioned perpendicular to the road. Custom mylar panels can be readily tiled on the sign to present different messages about community events, explained Director of Parks & Recreation Paul Roche.

What's more the new sign will be lighted on each side by four shielded light fixtures, so that messages can be seen by motorists in the evening. Conduits will be installed to supply power to the lights, Roche said.
The commission imposed a condition with its approval that the light fixtures emit no more lumens than four incandescent 50-watt max bulbs on each side. Further the lights can only be used during "business hours."

During the same meeting commission members acting in their capacity as the Ridgefield Inland Wetland Agency gave final approval to a stream restoration project for a small channel that runs parallel to Third Lane and terminates in Mamanasco Lake.
The public-private project, which was , involves rebuilding the stream bed using gabions, for the purpose of preventing flood erosion which is dumping massive amounts of sediment into the lake. The IWA approved the application for activity within the wetlands without discussion.
