Hurricane Sandy Aftermath: Updates for Ridgefield 11/1

Closed roads, Halloween still TBA, Parks and Rec. available as a shelter/recharging station.

Message from Ridgefield Town Hall:

Although we have gone from 100% to 76% without power, getting that number down farther is going take a lot longer because we are getting into areas with heavier damage.  CL&P has assigned crews to begin restoration in the immediate downtown for senior housing and emergency services.

The National Guard has arrived to assist our town with an expedited clearing of all blocked roads.  They have orders not to clear any areas that include wires.

Updates:

• Keep generators outside and away from the house because carbon monoxide fumes can seep into the home.  Make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector.

• If you are heating your homes with other sources like fireplaces, please follow safety procedures.  Also, do not try to heat your homes with grills or other appliances not intended for that purpose.

• All Halloween activities have been postponed for tonight, Oct. 31, but plans are being made to reschedule. Please stay off the streets.  It is not safe.

 • For all tax related questions please call the Tax Collector’s office at 203-431-2779

• A list of closed roads will be available soon on our web site and we are publicizing it through media and social media. (Click here for the list)

• Town Hall is open for WiFi and charging from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm daily.  Enter through the Bailey Avenue entrance.

• Parks and Recreation at 195 Danbury Road is now completely operational as a shelter with WiFi and charging stations.

• Schools and school related activities are cancelled for the rest of this week.

 • The Recycling Center and Transfer Station will be open through Friday November 2 from 7:30 am to 3 pm with free brush collection for non-commercial residents only.

• Drinking water filling stations are set up at the Ridgefield Playhouse, Parks and Recreation, and Fire Station 2 on Old Stagecoach Road.  Please bring your own containers.

• Non-drinking water is available at Fire Station 2 on Old Stagecoach Road.  Bring your own containers

 • Public Information Posting locations are: Town Hall, Parks & Recreation, Founder’s Hall, Ancona’s, Stop & Shop, Ridgebury Fire Station 2 and the Valero Gas Station at the Route 7/ Danbury Road intersection.

 • Our call center numbers are 203-431-2348, 431-2350 or 203-431-2351.  Remember, for emergencies dial 911.         ##

Thanks for the info. But why can't ant estimates as to when power will be restored be given? We were able to get them during Irene and the snowstorm. It was at least something to "look forward" to. Even if they think it will be two weeks, I could at least plan for it. And I really hope the east side of town isn't last AGAIN. We were the absolute last during those two storms. I fully support getting power to the seniors, shelters, etc, but after that everyone should be on the same footing.

Could someone explain the rationale behind having Main St repaired first (crews there for at least 6 hours on Wednesday) when there are 4 very dangerous intersections on Rte 7 still not operating. Surely the risk of a significant accident for the thousands of people using Rte 7 should count for something in the planning, rather than the usual focus on getting the commercial district back up. Now that the area around Stop-and-Shop is back for the useful shops, why waste time getting the real estate offices and dress shops open. Is anyone really that desperate to shop on Main St today?

Eileen, I totally agree with you. I don't even think Mr. Marconi knows how to get to our end of town since it is not connected to Main Street. I often feel that since we are on the "other side of town" we do not matter as much. I do know that our votes do count just as much though and if someone else is running for First Selectman, I know where my vote will go - as well as many others in our "exile".

Has anyone figured out how this first selectmen keeps getting elected. IT'S the Voters STUPID!!!! We get what the voters dictate. Instead of harassing the linemen why dont those DUMB people storm 400 Main ST. Seems like an appropriate place to start. Personally i have not seen one CL&P truck anywhere in town. But progress is being made by them. Town should be first as the people need supplies and fuel for their generators ETC. But as usual Ridgebury might as well be on another planet. I am willing to bet power will be out mid week Wed or Thursday. If that. Other than our polite residents bad mouthing line crews. I am willing to bet out of state workers avoid this town like the plague. They got a taste of our RUDE YUPPY SPOILED RESIDENTS THE LAST STORM, Why would they want to work here ??? To be harassed dy the ANOINTED!!!

Maybe the art collector that is buying all those schlumberger buildings and land has helped him win reelection.

Maybe he is cornering the market on generators!!! Never know my stocks in GENERAC are doing quite well!! Their is always a SILVER LINING even in disaster. WHEEEEEEEEE!!!
Tom Falconieri November 02, 2012 at 01:19 PM
Luca The normal YUPPIES are harassing the linemen again. I was in a local eatery where they were talking to a gentlemen about how residents were harassing them AGAIN. Lets SEE LETS HARRIS THE PEOPLE THAT ARE RESTORING OUR POWER> D'OH And where is king Rudy on this issue. Bet he would not touch this with a 10' POLE. Why doed the KING not tell the people doing this to STOP IT IMMEADIATELY??? No GUTS all BS AS USUAL FROM THE KING!!!

I am trying to work with the Red Cross to Send some supplies and help to all of you in CT. I need to know what you need [like a list; Toilet paper, blankets, batteries, water, food, ect.], and I need to know where the closest Red cross or Salvation Army is located. I know you all need help and if I get this information soon, the red cross said that you guys might get some things by this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

I reported a tree leaning on power lines Tuesday morning and te tree is still on the power lines. While it is important to get Main Street and Danbury Road up it always seems the same homes get power first. This has happened in the last 3 storms. Marconi is an idiot and only lives for publicity especially when wearing well tailored suits. It would be a real sign he cares that his home would be the last to have power. Let's get and Indie or Republican to run against him and then work the vote.
