Searching for the Giant Pumpkin - This Sunday

Ballard Park on Ridgefield’s Main Street will be converted to a Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off Festival on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  At noon growers of pumpkins, squashes and giant gourds from all over the region will compete for the heaviest pumpkin, squash and longest gourd.

The event, free to the public, is being presented by the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce and the Connecticut Giant Pumpkin Growers Club. Paul Piorek, News 12 Connecticut meteorologist, will be a special guest.

The Festival will feature music, a pumpkin-carving demonstration and activities for children sponsored by the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Enchanted Garden and Keeler Tavern Museum.  Vendor booths, keeping to a harvest season theme, will include area enterprises such as Veronica’s Garden, Gossett Nursery, the Olive Oil Factory, and Peaceable Farms.
