Ridgefield Unemployment Up in January But Down Year-Over-Year

Ridgefield's January unemployment rate — 5.1 percent — is just over the December rate but under the 2013 average and the 5.4 percent recorded at the same time last year.

According to the Connecticut Department of Labor, Ridgefield averaged 5.5 percent unemployment in 2013, with a low of 4.8 percent in December and April.

This represents a 6.3 percent rise in unemployment month-over-month but a 5.6 percent decline year-over-year.

The town's total labor force remained steady from December to January.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people jumped up to 7.2 percent in January from 6.8 percent overall in December. Nationally, the United State's unemployment rate for the same time period is 6.6 percent.
