New Ridgefield Bicycle Company Site 'Couldn't Be in a Better Location'

Since Ridgefield Bicycle Company moved locations a few months ago, from 22 Catoonah St. to 88 Danbury Road., its owner said business has been better than ever.

"It's great," Sean Dowd, Ridgefield Bicycle Company owner, said. "Functionally it's worked out really well."

Dowd pointed out that whereas the shop's old location was a 120-year-old house, the new location has much more space and allows the store to have five mechanics working at all times.

"(It) couldn't be in a better location," Dowd said. "The visibility from the road has increased business as well."

He said because the store is now located next to Starbucks and Early Bird Cafe, there's more traffic in the area and more people coming into the store.

About a third of the business is bike sales, another third is biking accessories and the final third is bike service, Dowd said.

There have also been more customers from nearby towns than before, Dowd said.

"Servicing neighboring towns has been excellent," he said.

The increase in customers has led to another benefit for the store as well – the Ridgefield Bicycle Sport Club has expanded since the move.

"It's proven to be a great place to do rides out of," Dowd said, mentioning the club has added trail runs and open water swims to its activities as well.

The club has grown to about 250 people, making it one of the largest shop-organized clubs in the country, Dowd said, which he attributes entirely to the store's new location.

"That's all been a function of new people coming in," Dowd said.
