How did you come up with the name?
Interior design is a very personalized business, so it is important for potential clients to know my name. I am my own brand.

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?
Ridgefield is a lovely community and my hometown. Many young families move here (as we did) and are interested in creating a home they love. I enjoy guiding them in that process.

Briefly, what business are you in?
Interior design and decorating

What's the most difficult moment or challenge you've faced as a business owner?
I'm constantly challenged to stay abreast of the latest trends, product features, and technology that relates to the home. I attend trade shows, visit the North Carolina furniture market, and troll the NY Design and Decorating building for new fabrics, furnishings, and accessories to find unique pieces to fit each clients style.

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?
I work solo and at times that can be a bit lonely. I really value all my client conversations and connections. I tackled a new project challenge with a steep learning curve and had to take a leap of faith that certain elements would turn out well. They did, but not without a few sleepless nights!

What's been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
My client list has steadily grown over the past 5 years, despite starting a luxury business in an economic downturn. That alone makes me proud! I'm also excited that my new clients are asking me to do larger projects, which is exciting!

What's the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?
My clients typically are expecting me to come up with the innovative ideas! I designed a total fireplace wall renovation that transformed the space from a dated ‘70s room to a contemporary look that fit my client perfectly. That was stressful, but so satisfying.

How do you deal with difficult customers?
I haven't had any truly difficult clients. I make a point of communicating details and status of their project every step of the way so there are no design or budget surprises. Client satisfaction with the design process is key to my business success, and to my personal satisfaction. I genuinely enjoy helping people solve the design puzzles that each home has.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
I'm a supporter of ROAR and have volunteered to decorate the venue for their fund raising events. I'm a supporter of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists and have contributed my design vignettes to their annual Festive Home event. I also donate design certificates as silent auction items to various school fundraisers.
