Since the collaboration between Au Pair in America and AAA, the au pair safe driving class has educated a plethora of au pairs who will be driving in the United States. Although each au pair has a driver's license from her home country, the rules of the road can differ greatly from country to country.
Au pairs from Mexico have learned the white line painted on the pavement before a traffic light is intended to keep driver's from stopping directly under the light. Au pairs from Brazil learned the importance of child restraints and seat belts. All au pairs learned that they will need extra care to handle cars that tend to be much larger than those back home.
The driving class entitled "Safe Driving in the U.S." was designed by AAA Southern New England Traffic and Education specialist Diana Imondi Dias and is specifically designed for au pairs. The class combines elements of AAA's Dare to Prepare Program for teens and parents, elements of the AAA Driver Improvement Program for driver's over 55 as well as specific information targeted to non-native driving population.
