Traffic Control Routine and Understood for Summer Fest

Captain Bryan Terzian of the Ridgefield Police Department said Main Street will be closed from Prospect Street to Catoonah Saturday for Summer Fest, a traffic situation that is similar to closing the street for parades.

"We've been doing this for years," Terzian said. He said cars heading south on Main Street are detoured on Prospect Street and after detours on East Ridge they pick up Main Street at Governor. Cars heading north on Main Street can turn on Governor or on Catoonah.  He said people can park in municipal lots near the Boys and Girls Club, or they can park at downtown businesses.

"They love it. It's one of the reasons they host these events, to bring people downtown for shopping," Terzian said.

Marion Roth, executive director of the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce, said people will be able to walk on Bailey Avenue and check out the chairs people have painted and otherwise decorated for a silent auction.

"People talk about the chairs, they talk about their favorites, and it's a lot of fun," Roth said. Following the silent auction, the most remarkable chairs will be publicly auctioned. Around the corner on Main Street, music will be performed in front of Town Hall.
