Third Eye Blind to Kick Off 'Alive @ Five' Concert Series in Stamford

MC Hammer, The B-52s and Lee DeWyze are also scheduled to appear at upcoming dates in the series.

Summers in downtown Stamford just aren't complete without the  concert series, which kicks off Thursday at .

Coordinated by the Stamford Downtown Special Services District (SDSSD) and sponsored by local businesses, the 2011 season will debut with San Francisco-based alternative rock bandThird Eye Blind followed by acts such as "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze, legendary pop-rap star MC Hammer and long-running rock band The B-52s.

"I think it's a great lineup," Sandy Goldstein, president of the SDSSD, told Patch. "I think it will attract a very dynamic demographic from 25-years-old all the way through 50-years-old. I'm very pleased with it."

Goldstein said that in addition to local music lovers getting the chance to see some of their favorite acts of all time, the owners of the restaurants in the area also get a large boost from the extra foot traffic.

"For all of the restaurants in the area, it's a bonanza and I mean that in a good way," she said. "I've heard owners say that this period keeps them going [financially] throughout the whole year, even when business slows down later on."
