Nutcracker Ballet Creates Huge Fans

Birgit Kovacs wasn't sure she'd find a high quality musical venue for her cello and family when she moved to Connecticut in 2002, but two years later she found the Danbury Music Centre.

"My life is mostly work and family," said Kovacs, who will play the Nutcracker Ballet in the Danbury Symphony Orchestra next month at Danbury High School. Her older son will dance in the ballet and her younger son is part of the Snow Flake Chorus. Her husband has this year off. "For me to be involved, it had to be musically significant."

The Danbury Music Centre's production of the Nutcracker Ballet takes place on Dec. 13 and Dec. 15 at Danbury High School. Follow this link for ticket information. Here is the Music Centre's Nutcracker Ballet Facebook page.

Kovacs works as a rheumatologist at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in Ridgefield. She said she was so happy upon moving to Connecticut to find the Danbury Music Center, because it provides a great repertoire of music for free or at low cost to the community, it has great leadership and a great orchestra.

"The Nutcracker Ballet has always been a whole family event for us. It's great we're all involved in the show," Kovacs said.
