How to Support Connecticut Kickstarter Projects

Want to support the arts in Connecticut? Here's one way you can help.

Sometimes you just need a little kickstart in the right direction. Kickstarter is a website that allows people to share a project and try to raise funds for it.

Here's four Kickstarter projects that are based in Connecticut.

Health & diabetes

Carb-Loaded: A Culture Dying to Eat is a documentary that examines the causes of diabetes. Filmmaker and Connecticut resident Lathe Poland has diabetes.

"I started digging and realized I could pretty much control my diet," he told Patch in May. "I started wondering, what is the story with the standard American diet?"

As of August 3, there are three days left to donate to the project. Of the $40,000 goal, $34,411 was donated. In order for the project to be funded, all $40,000 must be raised before the deadline of August 7.

Helping an artist record an album

Shelton-based James Howard is trying to raise $2,000 for band Walking Contradiction's first album and a tour. The deadline is August 21. As of August 3, no donations were pledged.

Want to help put on a concert?

Mighty Ploughboys is an alternative/indie/celtic rock band based in Danbury. They're putting on a free concert in Danbury this September and are hoping the community will help cover some of the operating costs.

They're asking for $800. As of August 3, they've raised $100. The deadline is August 28.

Art Installation on the Move

Mediation on Mourning was donated to the Newtown community after the Sandy Hook School tragedy. The art installation was donated by the artist, S.B. Woods, according to the Kickstarter page.

Funds are being sought to send the installation on a gallery tour. Visit the art installation Kickstarter page to donate. The last day to donate is September 1.

As of August 3, $212 of the $5,000 goal was donated.
