CORRECTION: My numbers above assumed the senate would receive a salary increase of 1.7% this year but last night, they voted to refuse the increase...so their cumulative increase is closer to 6% compared to Brennan's 22%. So, will Brennan refuse to take the increase too? House Votes To Freeze Pay For Lawmakers, Federal Employees Over the objections of House Democrats, the House voted 287 to 129 to approve a plan to freeze the salaries of Federal employees. The Washington Post reports in its "Post Politics" blog that 55 Democrats joined with Republicans to approve the measure which "would freeze the salaries of lawmakers and the nation's 2 million federal employees for the remainder of fiscal 2013." House Democrats "charged that the vote to freeze salaries was intended to provide political cover for conservative Republicans planning to vote against the fiscal cliff bill passed early Tuesday by the Senate."

22% for a lackluster functionary and 6% for a Senator?! So what is the BOF doing about it? I'd like to see a list of state selectman salaries similar to the superintendent salary list posted elsewhere... waste and more waste while constituents struggle to keep fat cat pols in honey.

Private funding to accomplish this - I think New Canaan did that at Waveny. And what are the stats regarding the financial resources, i.e., how 'rich' Wilton is compared to New Canaan, Darien, or Westport? We shouldn't make assumptions. We should also look at the number of bankruptcies and foreclosures in assessing the wherewithal of a town.
